IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management enables the collection, visualization, and reporting of power and thermal data for IT and facilities equipment. The collection of IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents provided in IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management tracks power and energy usage, and monitors ambient and exhaust temperatures in individual systems, groups of systems and devices within a data center and the infrastructure. Using workspaces provided in IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management, data can be integrated with existing performance monitoring capabilities provided by the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, thereby providing system administrators with an unprecedented integrated view of power, temperature, and application performance in their data centers.
The agent also stores power and thermal data in the Tivoli Data Warehouse, making this data available to other Tivoli management products such as IBM Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager, IBM Tivoli Service Level Advisor, and IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager. The IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management collection of monitoring agents can serve as key building blocks for more comprehensive Tivoli-based power management solutions.
In addition to the monitoring agents, the Reporting and Optimization feature reports on the usage and estimated cost of energy used in the data center. It also supports custom agent reporting. The feature also provides recommendations for optimizing usage and estimated costs of energy associated with the resources in the data center. Reporting and Optimization provides charting portlets that are built on Tivoli Integrated Portal charting technology and visualize key energy usage metrics. The charting portlets can be added to the dashboards of products that implement Tivoli Integrated Portal such as Tivoli Business Service Manager.
